We at All and One Theatre would like to acknowledge that we live and work on the unceded territory of the Kanien’kehá:ka people, on this island known as Tio’tia:ke. We also recognize the hundreds of First Nation, Inuit, and Metis groups that have been stewards of this island, and we are thankful to them. We acknowledge the colonial violence done to Indigenous people, and wish to move forward with a shared sense of community and non-violence.

Let us remember their names.

PLAY HISTORY
The Anorak began as an assignment for the Masters Acting program at premiered in Toronto at York University in 2000. The first mainstage productions took place at York in February 2002, performed by Adam Kelly Morton, with Technical Director Bree Barker. The Montreal premiere took place in September 2004, at Zeke's Gallery, Technical Director Chris Hand. After productions at TMU (Ryerson), Queen’s, McGill, Concordia, Université de Laval, Université de Montréal, and several high schools and Cegeps, the UK premiere took place at the Lion and Unicorn Theatre, London, May 2013, performed by Felix Brunger, directed by Matthew Gould.
In December 2014, The Anorak was performed for the last time by Adam Kelly Morton, for the 25th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre, at Montreal Improv Theatre, Technical Director, Linda Diep.
A production of The Anorak was mounted for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2022 with Finn McGee in the title role and Andrew Hogarth directing for No Frills Theater Company in Kent, England.
December 6th, 2024 marks the 35th anniversary of the Montreal Massacre. Although not the first massacre on this soil, it was the first mass school shooting in Canada, and the worst to date—particularly for its targeting of women. We have endured further school shootings here (Concordia University, Dawson College), and these kinds of massacres have become commonplace in the United States.
It is our hope that this play will help to promote change through community, communication, and non-violence.
We also wish to keep our memory of the event alive, and to commemorate the victims:
